The parenting tools contained in our book, PARENTING TOOL BOX were devloped over the last twenty years as we visited in family homes and gatherred in parenting groups in clinic settings, churches and communit centers in Skagit County. We learned that when parents are dealing with manipulative children they need non-maipulative inteventions. If manipulative interventions are used the child simply learns to be a more effective manipulator than their parents. As we learned non-manipulative parenting tools and passed them along to families, the children did much better and the parents felt proud of their new skills. As the parents felt more succcessful they passed the skills to the newer parents in the group sessions.
Parents attending the group are looking for a safe place to tell their stories and be heard. They are looking for parenting ideas that work for them and help them feel proud of their parenting skills.
